As you recently saw from President DeGioia’s announcement, the university will be closed on Friday, June 19, Juneteenth, to commemorate the anniversary of the date in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas learned of their free status with the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation. Therefore, all classes are cancelled tomorrow, Friday June 19. You will be informed by your instructor regarding rescheduled class time. Please contact your instructor or program director for more information.

In adding Juneteenth to the university’s holiday calendar, this year and going forward, we hope our community will continue to treat this day as an opportunity to reflect, grow and further our efforts to address inequality and support social justice.
